HET RECHT OP Groningen – CIRCUIT OF COMMONS
In Groningen stad, 27 September 2025

Doe met ons mee met het vieren, manifesteren en verdedigen van het Recht op Groningen.
Het Recht op Groningen staat voor het recht op de stad van onderaf, het recht op diversiteit, het recht op huisvesting en het recht op openbare en gemeenschappelijke ruimtes. Samen staan we op voor essentiële gemeenschapsbelangen en zelfgeorganiseerde sociale, culturele, artistieke en ecologische initiatieven in Groningen. Spreek je steun uit voor de Commons in Groningen!
Alle gemeenschappen en zelfgeorganiseerde initiatieven die hier verenigd zijn, zijn commons te noemen: plekken en collectieven die gerund worden door de mensen zelf. De Groningse Onderstroom is een Circuit of Commons.

Wij staan samen op tegen het verdwijnen van gemeenschappelijke ruimtes, zoals Betonbos en Waterskaap in het afgelopen jaar. Ook maken we ons zorgen over het gebrek aan respect voor natuur-ruimte in onze stad, waardoor klimaatverandering en de ineenstorting van de biodiversiteit verergert.
Wij staan samen, geïnspireerd door urban commons-bewegingen over de hele wereld, solidair met jullie, de commons van Groningen. Ons doel is om elkaar te ondersteunen en een constructieve dialoog aan te gaan met de stad, haar mensen, haar commons en haar instellingen. We willen helpen met het vormgeven van betere omstandigheden voor het heden en de toekomst van de Commons.
Groningen kan zich pas echt groen, democratisch en een stad van de toekomst noemen, als het de Commons in al zijn diversiteit actief ondersteunt. Dit betekent het erkennen van hun waarde, en het luisteren naar hun behoeftes, stemmen, voorstellen, werk en innovatie in besluitvormingsprocessen, vooral die de toekomst van de stad vormgeven.

We staan hier vandaag, en we eisen Beschikbaarheid van openbare vrije ruimte om te gebruiken en te delen voor zelfbeheerde initiatieven. We hebben genoeg van de constante onzekerheid en genoeg van precaire huur- en antikraak-situaties. We willen duurzame afspraken voor zelfbeheerde gemeenschappelijke ruimtes, voor alle initiatieven, met de vrijheid en flexibiliteit voor zelforganisatie.

Wij roepen op om de bestaande organisaties, collectieve ruimtes en samenwerkingsverbanden die al zijn opgebouwd te koesteren en te ondersteunen.

Vandaag lopen we mee met deze monumentale banner die is ontworpen door kunstenaars Libia Castro en Ólafur Ólafsson, en samen gemaakt door sociale naai-ateliers Draadkracht, Vanhulley en Awesome.

Ook roepen we jullie op om vooral de banden tussen de Groningse commons te blijven verdiepen en versterken. Van 25 oktober tot 20 december staat projectruimte SIGN tot de beschikking van het project Recht op Groningen – Circuit of Commons. Jullie zijn allemaal uitgenodigd om in deze periode deel te nemen aan het programma, en mee te praten over de situatie en de toekomst van de Groningse Commons.

THE RIGHT TO Groningen – CIRCUIT OF COMMONS
In Groningen city, September 27, 2025

Join us in celebrating, demonstrating, and defending the Right to Groningen.
The Right to Groningen stands for the right to the city from the bottom up, the right to diversity, the right to housing, and the right to public and communal spaces. Together we stand up for essential community interests and self-organized social, cultural, artistic, and ecological initiatives in Groningen. Express your support for the Commons in Groningen!

All communities and self-organized initiatives united here can be called commons: places and collectives run by the people themselves. The Groningen ‘Onderstroom’ is a Circuit of Commons.

Together, we stand against the disappearance of common spaces, such as Betonbos and Waterskaap in the past year. We are also concerned about the lack of respect for natural spaces in our city, which exacerbates climate change and the collapse of biodiversity.
Inspired by urban commons movements around the world, we stand in solidarity with you, the commons of Groningen. Our goal is to support each other and engage in constructive dialogue with the city, its people, its commons, and its institutions. We want to help shape better conditions for the present and future of the Commons.
Groningen can only truly call itself green, democratic, and a city of the future if it actively supports the Commons in all its diversity. This means recognizing their value and listening to their needs, voices, proposals, work, and innovation in decision-making processes, especially those that shape the city’s future.

We stand here today, demanding the availability of public free space to use and share for self-managed initiatives. We’ve had enough of the constant uncertainty and precarious rental and anti-squatting situations. We want sustainable agreements for self-managed communal spaces, for all initiatives, with the freedom and flexibility for self-organization.

We call for the nurturing and support of existing organizations, collective spaces, and partnerships that have already been established.

Today, we march with this monumental banner, designed by artists Libia Castro and Ólafur Ólafsson, and made together by the social sewing workshops Draadkracht, Vanhulley, and Awesome.

We also encourage you to continue to deepen and strengthen the connections between Groningen’s commons. From October 25th to December 20th, the SIGN project space will be available for the Right to Groningen – Circuit of Commons project. You are all invited to participate in the program during this period and to contribute to discussions about the situation and future of Groningen’s commons.
