As part of Zandbanks new Research Fellows programme, writers Olivia Niuman, Joshua Miller, Aura Baltrušaitytė, Khashayar Najafi and Rebecca Mangan are researching texts from the SIGN archive of 2000-2009. In this conference, which will be held at SIGN, they will share the results of their research, through performance, talks, video/audio and installations.

Come by on April 13! A wide selection of artists from that period will be discussed.
What does their work mean in the present time, what connections and associations are there, seen from the eyes of these young writers with different backgrounds?
It is not a history lesson or retrospective but rather an activation of the archive and shows the current relevance of Sign’s projects from Y2K in a broader perspective.

Zandbank are Dinnis van Dijken and Michiel Teeuw, is an arts criticism platform rooted in Groningen, NL. We believe in slow reflection, in sustainable criticism, and the power of extensive contemplations and considerations – and wish to move away from “actuality” and rushed writings. Earlier on February 4, 2024, Zandbank organized the first activation of SIGN’s archive 1988-1999 (the first 10 years) and the launch of their new website of Zandbank in SIGN.

Als onderdeel van Zandbank’s nieuwe Research Fellows-programma onderzoeken schrijvers Olivia Niuman, Joshua Miller, Aura Baltrušaitytė, Khashayar Najafi en Rebecca Mangan teksten uit het SIGN-archief van 2000-2009. Tijdens deze conferentie, die plaatsvindt bij SIGN, delen ze de resultaten van hun onderzoek via performances, lezingen, video/audio en installaties.

Kom langs op 13 april! Een ruime selectie aan kunstenaars uit die periode wordt behandeld.
Wat betekent hun werk nu in de huidige tijd, wat voor verbanden en associaties zijn er, gezien vanuit de ogen van deze jonge schrijvers met verschillende achtergronden?
Het is geen geschiedenisles of terugblik maar juist een activatie van het archief en toont de huidige relevantie van Sign’s projecten uit Y2K in breder perspectief.

Zandbank zijn Dinnis van Dijken en Michiel Teeuw, een nieuw kunstkritiek platform voor langzame reflectie. Zandbank pleit voor duurzame kritiek en de kracht van uitgebreide overpeinzingen en overwegingen – en wensen weg te bewegen van “actualiteiten” en gehaaste teksten. Op het moment faciliteren zij de productie en verspreiding van kunst-discursieve teksten; aan de andere kant duiken zij in de archieven voor herpublicaties.
