Wall Plugs zijn grootformaat murals, twee-dimensionale en ruimtelijke combinaties gevuld met verbeelde ervaringen over onthechting, over herkomst en thuis, over de zoektocht naar identiteit en een staat van zijn. Susanne, Ellemieke & Eunsae weerspiegelen onze tijd vanuit een persoonlijke perspectief. Zij zoeken naar uitnodigende manieren om dit aan ons duidelijk te maken. En vragen uw reactie. Wall Plugs maakt non hiërarchische verbindingen, bedient zich van alter ego’s als spreekbuis en smijt hartekreten de wereld in.

Over de kunstenaars:
Kijken naar de schilderijen van Eunsae Lee is kijken naar onze hedendaagse samenleving door een veranderende en levendige spiegel. Achter de zachte rondingen en kleurrijke penseelstreken schuilen verveling, woede of schuldgevoelens; emoties die ze gebruikt om haar creatieve energie aan te wakkeren en kunstwerken te produceren die bronnen van frustratie en ontevredenheid afbeelden of ertegen in opstand komen. Lee’s vroege werken lieten al haar kenmerkende energieke, kleurrijke penseelstreken zien. Maar in tegenstelling tot haar huidige werk waren ze bijna abstract. Ze pikte scènes uit de media op en beeldde ze gefragmenteerd af, los van hun context. Ze zoomde in en verwijderde personages of achtergronden, waardoor emoties in plaats van figuratie werden benadrukt. Lee’s recentere werk neemt een andere wending, maar blijft een relevante weerspiegeling van onze tijd.

Susanne Khalil Yusef maakt meeslepende kleurrijke installaties door een breed scala aan media te combineren, zoals keramiek, textiel en beeldhouwkunst. Op het eerste gezicht lijkt Yusefs felgekleurde werk luchtig en speels, maar bij nadere beschouwing verwijst het naar nood en gevaarlijke situaties. Ze stelt kritische vragen over thema’s als thuisland en ontheemding, identiteit en sociaal-geografische machtsverhoudingen. De verhalen in haar werk zijn nauw verbonden met haar eigen biografie, zoals de conflicten in haar thuisland Palestina.
Eerder werkte zij samen met Palestijnse vrienden aan een muurschildering. Bezoekers konden ook opmerkingen toevoegen.

Ellemieke Meijers is een kunstenaar wiens werk zich bevindt op het snijvlak van beeldende kunst en conceptuele reflectie. In haar werk onderzoekt zij fundamentele vragen over identiteit, zingeving en menselijke logica. Ze creëert alter ego’s, zoals de Christelijke Paardentherapeut, de Heilige Tochtstopper, en de Gatenvuller, die functioneren als spreekbuizen voor filosofische en existentiële thema’s. Haar artistieke praktijk omvat tekst, beeld en grootschalige installaties. Door het gebruik van absurde elementen en schijnbaar nonsensicale narratieven creëert zij ruimte voor reflectie en interpretatie. Deze werkwijze stelt bezoekers in staat haar denkwereld te betreden en daarbinnen nieuwe perspectieven op betekenis, waarheid en kennisontwikkeling te ontdekken.

Wall Plugs are large-format murals, two-dimensional and spatial combinations filled with imagined experiences of detachment, origins and home, and the search for identity and a state of being. Susanne, Ellemieke & Eunsae reflect our times from a personal perspective.
They seek inviting ways to communicate this to us. And they ask for your feedback. Wall Plugs creates non-hierarchical connections, uses alter egos as mouthpieces, and launches cries from the heart into the world.

About the artists:
Ellemieke Meijers is an artist whose work lies at the intersection of visual art and conceptual reflection. In her work, she explores fundamental questions about identity, meaning, and human logic. She creates alter egos, such as the Christian Equine Therapist, the Holy Draft Stopper, and the Gap Filler, which function as mouthpieces for philosophical and existential themes. Her artistic practice encompasses text, image, and large-scale installations. Through the use of absurd elements and seemingly nonsensical narratives, she creates space for reflection and interpretation. This method allows visitors to enter her world of thought and discover new perspectives on meaning, truth, and knowledge development within it.

Susanne Khalill Yusef is often collaborating with Palestinian friends on a mural. Visitors can add comments. Susanne Khalil Yusef makes immersive colourful installations by combining a wide range of media such as ceramics, textiles, and sculpture. At first glance, Yusef’s brightly coloured work seems light-hearted and playful, but if you look closer it refers to distress and dangerous situations. She raises critical questions about themes such as homeland and displacement, identity and socio-geographic power relations. The stories in her work are closely related to her own biography, such as the conflicts in her home country, Palestine.

Looking at Eunsae Lee‘s paintings is looking at our contemporary society through a morphing and vibrant mirror. Behind the soft curves and colorful brush strokes lies boredom, anger, or guilt, emotions she uses to fuel her creative energy and to produce artworks that either depict or rebel against sources of frustration and discontent. Lee’s early works already bared her signature energetic colorful brush strokes. But contrarily to her current pieces, they were almost abstract. She used to pick up scenes from the media and depict them in a fragmented way, detached from their context. She zoomed in, and deleted characters or backgrounds, emphasizing emotions rather than figuration. Lee´s more recent work takes a different turn but remains a relevant reflection of our time.
