Hello everyone,

THURSDAY the 30th of May 2019, Sign is hosting a project under the umbrella of Timeline Gallery Projects. For this day, we, Giulia de Giovanelli & Eric Peter, will be presenting a choreography of self-alienation. 
Self-alienation is something we explain in the light of overcoming a divisive thinking into a state of mind where other is self, and self is other. Perhaps this binary becomes most apparent in the (inner) voice: self in its bodily confinement, yet other in its ease to follow public opinion, accents, referents, gossips. And although this self and other is largely imminent to contact between human beings, it has proven to lead to politics of hate and fear simultaneously.
The project ‘Choreography of Disclosure. Act 1, Groningen’ aspires to challenge the dichotomy of the personal versus the communal voice in a series of movements in public space(s). But, there is no dance without dancers.
In order for the work to come into existence, we kindly ask you to send us your phone number if you wish to participate. Via a phone call, you will be guided through the city centre of Groningen to partake in the choreograph of self-alienation. We promise you, nothing without consent, as the dance is one between the both of us. Think of it as a tango, where one leads and the other follows. The evening will have the following time slots to choose from:

Op donderdag 30 mei 2019 is SIGN gastheer voor het project ‘Choreography of Disclosure. Act 1, Groningen’. Op die dag presenteren wij, Giulia de Giovanelli en Eric Peter, deze choreografie van zelfvervreemding.
Dit vindt plaats in de context van Timeline Gallery, angst en publieke ruimte, een serie projecten die in de openbare ruimte worden gerealiseerd.
Zelfvervreemding vatten wij op als onderdeel van het overwinnen van verdeeld denken, waarin een gemoedstoestand ontstaat waarin het andere eigen wordt, en het eigen het andere. Deze tegenstelling wordt wellicht het duidelijkst in de (innerlijke) stem: het eigen in haar lichamelijke begrenzingen en het andere dat de publieke opinie, accenten, verwijzingen en roddels volgt. En hoewel het eigen en het andere onvermijdelijk ontstaan in het contact tussen mensen, is gebleken dat het evenwel kan leiden tot haat en angst. 

Het project ‘Choreography of Disclosure. Act 1, Groningen’ heeft als doel om de tegenstellingen tussen de persoonlijke en de gemeenschappelijke stem uit te dagen middels een serie van bewegingen in de publieke ruimte. Maar: er bestaat geen dans zonder dansers. Om het werk te laten ontstaan, vragen wij vriendelijk om ons je telefoonnummer te sturen als je wilt deelnemen aan dit project. Middels een telefoontje word je door het stadscentrum van Groningen geleid om zo deel te nemen aan de choreografie van zelfvervreemding. We beloven dat niets gebeurt zonder jouw instemming, want een dans vindt immers plaats tussen twee mensen. Zie het als een tango, waarbij de ene leidt en de andere volgt.

We kijken ernaar uit je te verwelkomen in Sign op 30 mei voor ‘Choreography of Disclosure. Act 1, Groningen’. De choreografie begint en eindigt in Sign. Er zijn snacks, drankjes en ook is er verdiepend materiaal beschikbaar in verband met ons onderzoek rondom zelfvervreemding.
