SIGN presenteert met dit filmprogramma recente producties van kunstenaars/filmmakers van het analoge film collectief WORM Filmwerkplaats, een lab door kunstenaars gerund, aan de Witte de Withstraat Rotterdam. Filmwerkplaats houd zich bezig met film als artistiek medium. Meeste films uit het programma zijn geheel opgenomen, handgemaakt en ge-edit op 16mm of Super 8 formaat door de kunstenaars zelf . En reflecteren daarbij op het begrip film als een fysiek medium. Van found-footage, toevallige fictie tot episodes van ingebeelde nostalgia, de vertellingen kunnen op vele manieren gezien en ervaren worden. De gemeenschappelijke basis van de makers is de werkruimte waar de films geproduceerd zijn. In deze context wordt film onderzocht als een tactiel materiaal en de grenzen van zijn mogelijkheden worden uitgedaagd, door chemische manipulatie, printen en her-printen, effecten in de camera of soms door direct behandeling van het materiaal.
Recent films from the Filmwerkplaats Rotterdam
This film-program brings to SIGN the recent production made by the artist-filmmakers of the analogue film collective WORM Filmwerkplaats, an artist-run lab based at the Witte de Withstraat in Rotterdam, dedicated to motion picture film as an artistic, expressive medium. Most of the films included in the program were entirely shot, hand-processed and edited on 16mm or Super 8 formats by the artists themselves, and they reflect on the notion of film as a physical medium. From found-footage accidental fictions to episodes of imagined nostalgia, the narratives to be seen and experienced are many. The common ground of the filmmakers is the workspace where the films are produced. Film, in this context, is explored as a tactile material and its possibilities are pushed to its borders, being through chemical manipulation, printing and reprinting, in-camera effects or perhaps through direct handling of the material.

This program brings to Sign the recent 16mm and Super 8 production made by the artist-filmmakers from the Filmwerkplaats Rotterdam, an artist-run lab dedicated to motion picture film as an artistic, expressive medium. From found-footage accidental fictions to episodes of imagined nostalgia, the narratives to be experienced are multiple. Besides the main program, Jianjian – an installation by artist Lichun Tseng and WASTE, performance by Nan Wang will also take place.
