Het Resort & SIGN presents: SPREAD Zinefest 2018
At SIGN: October 13 until 21
Library with quirky zines, workshops & presentations of Ektor Ntourakos, Heikki Lotvonen, Angeliki Diakrousi, Alice Strete.
In SIGN the focus in aimed at new wayward zines and printed matter in which one can express his personal voice. That can be a political voice, a critical, an activist one or against the grain.
The form itself is in itself a reaction on conventional forms of visual arts and therefore is a means of communication. Moreover it is ‘handmade’ by artists or image makers a.o.
The shapes are many: pamphlet like, booklets, papers, collages. Incorporated can be texts, photos, edits, comic-cartoonesque elements etc.
Beside the library/presentation there is extra attention for distribution and spreading, digital publications included.
Related to that 3 interesting WORKSHOPS will be organised in SIGN by the following artists. Make your own zines!!! Material and tools are available, take your own laptop. Language employed English. Costs € 5,-

1. Workshop: ‘We own the flyers’
Data: 14 & 15 oktober from 13.00-15.00 hrs.
‘We own the flyers‘ a workshop by Ektor Ntourakos about making & distributing of your own zine products in an urban public space of Groningen! Within his practice Ektor Ntourakos undertakes interventions in the city landscape in order to intensify the notion of public and its capacity for information, for communication, knowledge. www.ektorntourakos.com
2. Workshop: ‘Glyph Drawing Club’
Data: 16 & 17 October: 13.30 -16.00 hrs.
‘Glyph Drawing Club’ a workshop by Heikki Lotvonen: make a zine with this first version of a new kind of textmode/unicode art editor! GlyphDrawing.Club Workshop — learn the secrets of text art! Join the workshop to learn the arcane skill of making text art, the centuries old practice of creating elaborate typographic mosaics that was once only known by the printmaker masters. The secrets will be unveiled during the workshop with various assignments and exercises, in which you will learn how to create intricate illustrations, type design, modular design, concrete poetry and much more using typographic symbols. Participants will be introduced to GlyphDrawing.Club, a modern online text art editor. The editor is inspired by the limitations and possibilities of ASCII art, but made with inclusivity, accessibility, openness and experimentation in mind. During the workshop, participants will learn what is ASCII art, how to make ASCII art, and how ASCII art can be applied to be used in various ways. Participants are required to bring their own laptops.
3. Workshop ‘Zine-machines’
Data: 19 & 20 October: 12.00-15.00 hrs.
‘Zine-machines’ is a workshop by Angeliki Diakrousi, Alice Strete & Luke Murphy: your (own) texts, pictures etc. will be transformed with playful software in remarkable zines.

In SIGN:
13 t/m 21 oktober: bibliotheek/collectie van eigenzinnige zines, workshops en presentaties werk Ektor Ntourakos, Heikki Lotvinen, Angeliki Diakrousi, Alice Strete.
Bij SIGN ligt de focus op nieuwe eigenzinnige zines en printvormen waarbij men zijn stem laat horen op individuele basis; direct vanuit de individuele kunstenaar. Dat kan een geengageerde stem zijn, een kritische, een activistische of een tegendraadse. De vorm zelf is al een reactie op de conventionele vormen van beeldende kunst en is dus ook een communicatief middel. Het is vooral ‘handgemaakt’ door kunstenaar/beeldmakers e.a
Verschijningsvormen zijn er legio: pamfletvormen, boekjes, kranten, collages. Mee kan spelen zijn teksten, foto’s, montages, strip-cartooneske onderdelen etc.
Naast de bibliotheek/ presentatie is er ook extra aandacht voor distributie en het verspreiden incl. digitale publicaties. In verband daarmee worden er + 3 WORKSHOPS gegeven

‘We own the flyers’ is een workshop door Ektor Ntourakos over het maken & distributie van je eigen zinevormen in de stedelijke openbare ruimte van Groningen! Met zijn werk brengt Ektor Ntourakos interventies aan in het stedelijke landschap om het besef van openbaarheid te versterken en de daar aanwezige informatie, communicatie en kennis. www.ektorntourakos.com
2. Workshop: ‘Glyph Drawing Club’

‘Glyph Drawing Club’ een workshop door Heikki Lotvonen: maak een zine met deze eerste versie van een nieuwe vorm van textmode/unicode kunst editor!
Doe mee aan de workshop om je de obscure vaardigheden van tekstkunst eigen te maken, het eeuwenoude ambacht van het maken van doorwrochte typografische mozaïeken dat ooit enkel bekend was bij de meesters van de drukkunst. De geheimen zullen onthuld worden tijdens de workshop door verschillende opdrachten en oefeningen, waardoor je zult leren hoe ingewikkelde illustraties, letterontwerp, modulair ontwerpen, concrete poëzie en veel meer te maken door typografische symbolen te gebruiken. Deelnemers zullen kennismaken met de GlyphDrawing Club (http://www.glyphdrawing.club/), een moderne online tekst kunst editor. De editor is geïnspireerd door imitaties en mogelijkheden van ASCII-kunst maar ontwikkeld met de gedachte van inclusiviteit, toegankelijkheid, openheid en experiment. Tijdens de workshop leren de deelnemers wat ASCII-kunst is, hoe je ASCII-kunst maakt en hoe ASCII-kunst op verschillende manieren toegepast kan worden.
