HUMANOID is een tentoonstelling van: DANIEL MAALMAN, AREWIK AVAKIAN, SANE VAN DER HORST met werk waarin de metamorfe mens en zijn gedrag een rol speelt. De op mensen geënte vormen hebben een verschillend doel en functie, met neiging tot absurdisme, spot en relativering.
Daniel Maalman ‘Small Talk’ is een geluidskunstwerk, een modulaire installatie met ingebouwde elektronica, waarbij het de taak van de rijen rode en groene kabouters is de ingesproken boodschappen van de bezoeker over te brengen van punt A naar B (van rode naar groene telefoon en vice versa). Door de herhaling, na-aperij en het vervormde stemgeluid lijken zij met de menselijke communicatie en met de bezoeker te spotten.
Arewik Avakian De beeldengroep ‘Dreamy Disguise Adieu Enfance’ 2009-2010 toont kinderlijven met volwassen hoofden erop (met steeds Avakians eigen gezicht). Het werk draait om het ego waarbij Avakian zich vereenzelvigt met verschillende karakters. Zo creëert zij haar eigen eenmanstheater,
waar haar alter ego keer op keer een metamorfose ondergaat.
Sane van der Horst gebruikt vaak clowneske vormen en absurdistische deformaties. Hij richt zich op de afgedwongen lach (‘lach of ik schiet’).
In zijn laatste werken lijken we ons te bevinden in pretparken, de wereld van sprookjes als Pinokkio, die ons eerst verleid,
maar waar achter de illusie toch de nachtmerrie schuilt.

HUMANOID an exhibition from DANIEL MAALMAN, AREWIK AVAKIAN, SANE VAN DER HORST with works in which the metamorphic human and his behaviour play a part. The forms grafted on humans have a different purpose and function, with a tendency to absurdism, mockery and toning down.
Daniel Maalman “Small Talk” is a sound-piece, a modular installation with built-in electronics, in which it is the task of the rows of green and red dwarfs
to transport the recorded messages of the visitor from A to B (from red to green telephone and vice versa). Because of the repetition,
the imitation and the distorted sound of the voice they seem to mock the visitor and human communication in general.
Arewik Avakian The group of sculptures “Dreamy Disguise Adieu Enfance” 2009-2010 shows children’s bodies with heads of grown-ups (all with the face of Avakian). The work is about ego. Avakian identifies herself with different characters. This way she creates a one-man-theatre in which her alter ego changes time after time.
Sane van der Horst often uses clownish shapes and absurd deformations. He aims at the forced laugh (‘laugh or I’ll shoot’).
In his latest works we seem to be in amusement parks, the world of fairy-tales like Pinocchio that tempts us but where the nightmare is covered by illusion.
