Decolonial Dialogues, a collaboration between Sign– Platform for young art, and the Professorship Image in Context of Minerva, Groningen, explores the obstacles, challenges, possibilities for artists in their ambition to decolonize all kind of practices they cultivate or are confronted with.

In this second Decolonial Dialogue Johanneke Dijkstra and Nuria Zantman will sketch how they try to deconstruct the usual hierarchical relations in the filmindustry by creating honest, complex and commited narrations, in co-creation with their crew and cast. They connect decoloniality with Ruth Behar’s concept of the ‘vulnerable observer’ – the idea that makers acknowledge their position and vulnerability in storytelling.

Decolonial Dialogues, een samenwerking tussen Sign -Platform voor jonge kunst en het Lectoraat Image in Context van Minerva, Groningen exploreert de obstakels, uitdagingen, mogelijkheden voor kunstenaars in hun ambitie om hun eigen praktijken, en die waarmee ze geconfronteerd zijn, te dekoloniseren.

In onze tweede Decolonial Dialogue vertellen Johanneke Dijkstra en Nuria Zantman hoe zij als filmmakers de gebruikelijke hierarchische verhouding in de filmindustrie proberen te deconstrueren door eerlijke, complexe, en betrokken vertellingen te creëren in samenwerking met hun filmploeg en acteurs. Zij koppelen daarbij decolonialiteit aan Ruth Behar’s concept van de *vulnerable observer* – het idee dat makers hun eigen positie en kwetsbaarheid erkennen in het vertellen van verhalen.
