SIGN=

SIGN is a projectspace for young, experimental interdisciplinary art in the North of the Netherlands. The exhibitions and projects SIGN organises in it’s space and elsewhere are interdisciplinary, experimental and up to date with attention to the contextual relation. Presentations move around on the edges that appear to be customary in art, the art-world and society, implicit digital world and the role of the public.

Proceeding from surprising points of view and the individual power of the artist/curator Sign plays with the artistic and social spot, function and meaning of art. Sign generates for all this possibilities beyond limiting or dogmatic preconditions. This way residencies, publications, performances, cognitive actions, interventions, audio-visual combinations, new media etc. The experiment also involves the attitude and role of the artist, expanding the studio-artist. Especially if interaction with the audience in a live-setting is arranged.

SIGN is always looking for settings in which art can communicate with society resulting in an actual experience. Therefore projects take also place on other locations, in public space and with different partners. The dynamics of actual art leads to more interlacing with other sectors like the social. This results into new hybrid and differentiated, modified forms of art. Multiple aspects are united in an art project in which ways of communication and interaction play a part.
